Volleyball Olympic Re-cap - US wins 3 of 4 Gold Medals

The USA had a great Olympic showing with 3 gold medals and 1 silver in Beijing.

The Men's Indoor Volleyball team won a Gold Medal against Brazil in a 3-1 match while the Women lost to Brazil 1-3 to win the Silver Medal.

In beach Volleyball, both of the top mens and womens teams from the US won Gold with Rogers and Delhausser defeating Brazil and May-Treanor and Walsh beating the Chinese team in a rain socked final event.

Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal as well as Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs both finished just out of the medal running in 5th place.

These teams will be back in action on the AVP tour this coming weekend in Mason, OH and below are the rest of the AVP events for the season.

Just a quick reminder to New England Players. The last EEVB tournament in Newport filled up and we turned away a couple of teams. The next tournament on July 26-27 will attract a lot more open level teams with $2500 prize money for both men and women plus a trip to the Caribbean.

Enter as a girl-guy team.
You want to know the level of play? It is varied and open to all levels. Top teams can battle for the cash while all teams just compete to see how far up the ladder they can advance.

The format of the tournament is called the LADDER FORMAT. That means there is no round-robin or playoffs. Each team gets to play 12 single games.
Unlike most tournaments, there is no sitting at all. Each team plays every game, all day.
Prizes? The first 4 rounds are for seeding, after that .... prizes are awarded PER GAME.
That's right! Teams on the top courts get cash prizes after every game won.

The tournament is Saturday, July 26th, 2008.
The location is Brampton, Ontario, Canada. The city of Brampton is a 2 hour drive northwest of Buffalo.

After Dalhausser and Rogers’ claimed their third international gold medal together, compatriots Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh captured the women’s title in the All-American finale with a 21-13 and 21-13 win in 36 minutes over Tyra Turner and Rachel Wacholder with Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs giving the United States a 1-2-3 sweep by capturing the bronze medal. Misty May-Treanor digs her way into another Gold Medal match PARIS, FRANCE, June 21, 2008 - For the first-time this season and the 17th-time in the history of the women’s SWATCH FIVB World Tour, two teams from the United States will compete for an international gold medal as Tyra Turner and Rachel Wacholder challenge defending Henkel Grand Chelem champions Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh after both tandems won two matches each here Saturday. It will be the sixth SWATCH FIVB World Tour match between the two teams with May-Treanor and Walsh winning the first five meetings. Fourth-seeded Reinder Nummerdor and Richard Schuil of the Netherlands scored three-set wins over teams from Austria and the United States earlier Saturday before advancing to the US$600,00 Henkel Grand Chelem gold medal match Sunday with a 21-14 and 21-17 win in 43 minutes over sixth-seeded David Klemperer and Eric Koreng of Germany.
